Emily Smith-Lee, Lawyer, Business Owner, and Author of the book "Rules of the Road-What You Need to Know About Employment Laws in Massachusetts"
As a small business, you don't have access to the same resource as larger companies. You may or may not have a full human resources department, and you probably don't have a lawyer on staff.
So you do the best you can. You maybe sign the contract that was written by the other party's attorney and hope nothing goes wrong. You take your best shot at putting together the compensation plans for your employees and hope that everything is "by the book." You may have a "handshake" deal with a business partner, and hope and trust that both of you will continue to work together in good faith.
Chances are, you wouldn't mind paying for an hour or two of a lawyer's time to vet each of these situations and more, but the time required to search for a lawyer with the right expertise, and explain your situation and your business is too daunting. You may also have had experiences with law firms who don't want to sign you up for a small, inexpensive, engagement, but want you to commit to a whole menu of costly legal services.
But it doesn't have to be that way. Imagine that, for a low monthly fee that is less than our standard hourly billing rate, you can have access to a free one-hour initial strategy and assessment consultation, one hour each month for any kind of legal services we offer, a dedicated attorney resource, priority scheduling, and guaranteed discounts off of our regular fees if you need more time than that.
Just click the link on this page to request more information about our Business Membership Program- we're ready when you are!
